The Land Stewards Journal (LSJ) is a software tool to help landowners, organizations and businesses organize and review their stewardship work and progress. The goal of the software is to provide you a summary of your actions and measurements that shows what is happening on your land over time. LSJ is organized around the cycle of planning, action and monitoring that is the core of successful land stewardship projects.
LSJ is designed to be flexible enough to meet the needs of casual users as well as those desiring to keep and search more detailed records. In most cases the only information absolutely required is a name or description of the record you are creating. The software is aimed at individuals, organizations and commercial entities.
The software is written for Microsoft Windows desktop computers. It does not require a network connection to work, however a few optional features do use the web. Although the software could theoretically be used in any location, in its current incarnation it is aimed at users in Wisconsin and neighboring states. For instance species lookup information is based on Wisconsin species lists, and floristic quality values are based on the Wisconsin Coefficient of Conservation for plants.
The Land Stewards Journal is a work-in-progress and your ideas and criticisms that help to improve it are very welcome. Please send your feedback to
Thank you for your interest, time and help to make this software a better tool for protecting our native habitats.
